Solution

A maleo bird in front of a sun and clouds. The clouds sit below the bird, so it appears to fly high — Luwuk is not only beautiful, but also wise and advanced.

Reading the mark

The emblem is meant to be read top to bottom, like a postcard: sky, subject, horizon. Every element is either a solid white shape or a thin white line, so the whole scene holds together in one color.

   A local icon

   The maleo is the bird people already associate with the region, so the logo needs no explanation to locals.

   Placement tells the story

   Putting the clouds lower than the bird is the whole message: it is flying high.

   The scene sits inside a rounded square, so it works as a social-media avatar or site icon without redrawing.
